Doğanhisar sits on the north-eastern slopes of the Sultan Mountains, bordered by Akşehir, Ilgın, Hüyük and Isparta’s Şarkikaraağaç district. Its roots go back to Roman and Byzantine times. Today the economy depends on farming and livestock: cereals, pulses and vegetables are grown, sour cherry farming has grown strongly in recent years and apple orchards are expanding. Beekeeping is also practised. The town has a long tradition of clay water jugs and hand-woven peşkir towels, now being revived through local courses.
