Kaynarca, formerly called Şeyhler, is a rural district of Sakarya. The Acarlar Floodplain Forest, known as Turkey’s largest mono-block floodplain forest and listed as a Ramsar wetland since 2009, lies to its north-east between Karasu and Kaynarca. It is a breeding and wintering area for migratory birds, and watercraft are banned on its lagoon and canals.
