Secure Data Destruction

Irrecoverable destruction of data on disks, SSDs, phones and backup media, fully documented.

Secure data destruction means removing data from hard drives, SSDs, servers, phones, USB sticks and backup tapes so that it cannot be recovered by any software or laboratory method, and documenting that it was done. Formatting a disk or a basic factory reset is usually not enough.

Who needs it?

Any organisation that refreshes laptops, returns leased equipment, decommissions a server room, closes branches or sends failed drives back for warranty replacement. For clinics, law firms, accounting and insurance companies, and every employer holding HR records, it is directly a matter of personal data protection under KVKK and GDPR.

Methods we apply

  • Software sanitisation for devices that will be reused or returned: full overwrite for HDDs, firmware-level Secure Erase or Sanitize and cryptographic erase for SSDs, aligned with the Clear, Purge and Destroy levels of NIST SP 800-88.
  • Physical destruction by crushing or shredding for failed or highly sensitive media. Degaussing is used only on magnetic media, as it has no effect on flash storage.
  • Mobile devices are removed from corporate accounts and device management before an encrypted reset or physical destruction.

Documentation

Every job ends with a certificate of destruction listing serial numbers, method, date, place and responsible people, with verification logs or photos where requested. Racurity runs the whole chain, from inventory to report, through a single point of contact and the infrastructure of expert solution partners, and can embed it into your regular device lifecycle, so that every retired laptop, phone and disk follows the same documented path from the desk to destruction.

Frequently asked questions

Is formatting a drive enough?

No. Formatting usually resets the file table only; data remains recoverable. Use sanitisation suited to the media or physical destruction.

Why are SSDs wiped differently?

Wear levelling and hidden spare areas mean overwriting may miss cells, so firmware secure erase, cryptographic erase or shredding is used.
