What is a brand identity?
Brand identity is the whole visual and verbal system that makes a brand recognisable: logo, colour palette, typography, photographic language, icon set, motion language and tone of voice. The logo is only the most visible part of that system.
Why isn't a logo enough?
Most brand journeys start with "we need a logo". But customers do not remember you by a logo — they remember a repeating whole: the same colour, the same type, the same way of speaking. A logo on its own cannot produce that repetition.
Identity is a system
Colour palette, type hierarchy, photographic language, icon set and — most of all — tone of voice. When those work together, a brand becomes recognisable. If one piece is missing, the system has to be reinvented at every application.
Consistency comes before creativity
A brand that changes its language with every campaign does not stick. That is exactly what a brand guide is for: it does not stop you being creative, it gives creativity a frame. Without one, every new piece of work restarts the same argument from zero.
Where do you start?
Define the brand problem first. If you have no one-sentence answer to "why should they choose us?", a logo will not answer it for you. Once positioning is settled, the visual system follows naturally.
