When ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot or Google AI Overviews state something wrong about your brand, the cause is usually outdated, incomplete or conflicting data rather than bad intent. Language models combine what they learned during training with pages they retrieve at answer time, and when information is scarce they may fill the gap with plausible but invented details.
- Document the error: ask the same question on several platforms, save answers, dates and cited sources.
- Trace the source: outdated directory listings, old news items or forgotten pages on your own site.
- Make your website the single source of truth and add Organization structured data with official and alternative names.
- Align third-party listings, including your Google Business Profile, and request corrections from publishers.
- Use platform feedback options and check each platform’s current documentation for privacy or content reports.
Avoid manipulative shortcuts such as hidden prompts, fake forum accounts or editing Wikipedia about your own company. Technical fixes typically take 1–2 weeks, while AI systems usually need 4–12 weeks to reflect changes; nobody can guarantee a full correction. Racoun’s AI visibility service covers audits, entity cards, schema markup, bot access management and monthly citation tracking.
