Video and Reels Content Guide for Dance Schools

A step-by-step guide for dance schools to plan, shoot and convert short-form video content.

Dance and short-form video are a natural match, yet many dance schools rely on unplanned clips filmed between classes. This guide explains how to plan, shoot and convert video content into new students.

Dance school videos serve three purposes: inspiring viewers with performances, encouraging them with beginners’ first steps and informing them with figure breakdowns and class walkthroughs. Most schools focus only on inspiration, but encouragement and information drive enrollment. Build recurring series such as “figure of the week”, a beginner group’s journey from first class to stage, short histories of dance styles, social night moments and instructor introductions.

Hold planned shoot days once or twice a month with a shot list, good light, coordinated outfits, vertical framing and written consent from participants. Be careful with music: use tracks allowed for business accounts and assess rights separately for videos on your own website. Respect students who do not want to appear and obtain parental consent for children.

Every video needs a next step: link to the relevant dance style page, mention new group start dates and reply to messages the same day. Measure profile and site visits, enrollment inquiries and trial bookings by series.
