Entity SEO is the work of making your brand a distinct, well-defined entity that search engines and AI systems can recognise without confusing it with anything else. An entity is a person, company, product, place or concept whose attributes and relationships are known. Google made this approach mainstream with the Knowledge Graph in 2012.
Search engines and language models gather information about a brand from its website, structured data, business profile, social accounts, news and reviews. When these sources agree, the brand is understood as one entity; when they conflict, it may be split or mixed up with a similarly named company, which can lead to wrong AI answers.
- Write a brand entity card: official and alternate names, founding year, address, service area and a one-sentence definition.
- Turn the About page into an entity page and add Organization markup with alternateName, foundingDate, areaServed and sameAs.
- Keep name, address and phone identical everywhere.
- Build topical authority with linked, in-depth content and earn independent mentions.
- Do not write your own Wikipedia article; it conflicts with its rules.
Technical setup usually takes 1 to 2 weeks and AI systems typically reflect it within 4 to 12 weeks, with no guarantee of a knowledge panel. Racoun includes the brand entity card in its AI visibility service.
