Getting indexed by Google involves discovery, crawling and indexing. Indexing does not guarantee rankings, but without it a page cannot appear in results.
- Add and verify your site in Google Search Console, ideally as a domain property using a company account.
- Build an auto-updating XML sitemap containing only canonical, indexable URLs that return 200, and submit it.
- Use the URL inspection tool to check key pages and request indexing for new or updated ones; requests can speed up crawling but do not guarantee indexing.
- Link new pages from menus, categories and related posts.
- Monitor the page indexing report for statuses like crawled or discovered but not indexed, noindex, duplicates, robots.txt blocks and errors.
Use noindex rather than robots.txt to remove pages from the index. The Indexing API is only for job postings and livestreams. Racoun sites ship with sitemaps, canonical and robots configuration and Search Console setup.
