How to Secure a Website

Website security comes from layered measures: up-to-date software, HTTPS, strong passwords with MFA, least-privilege access, secure forms, off-site backups, a WAF and continuous monitoring.

Website security is not a single plugin or certificate; it is a set of layered measures. Most attacks are automated and target any site with known weaknesses, regardless of size.

  • Keep software, libraries and server components updated.
  • Serve every page over HTTPS.
  • Use unique strong passwords and multi-factor authentication for admin, hosting, domain and email accounts.
  • Apply least-privilege access and remove old accounts promptly.
  • Prevent SQL injection, XSS and CSRF through secure coding and input validation.
  • Protect forms against bots and secure file uploads.
  • Take automatic off-site backups and test restores (3-2-1 rule).
  • Use a WAF, security headers, server hardening, monitoring and regular vulnerability scans or penetration tests.

Racoun builds sites on its own infrastructure, reducing reliance on third-party themes and plugins. Through Pedante Bilişim and Racurity, it offers WAF, backup, vulnerability scanning and penetration testing via expert solution partners.
