Setting up a cloud server is quick, but setting it up securely takes a plan.
- Analyse the workload: application, traffic, OS needs, data location, acceptable downtime and data loss.
- Choose a provider and region; consider KVKK when personal data is involved.
- Select the OS and size vCPU, RAM and disk, starting small.
- Configure networking and a deny-by-default firewall; never expose databases or admin ports publicly.
- Use SSH keys, disable direct root login, patch and harden the system.
- Install the application stack, an SSL certificate, off-server backups and monitoring.
- Point DNS to the server and go live.
Ongoing patching, monitoring, backup testing and cost reviews are essential. Racoun’s Pedante Bilişim team builds and manages cloud servers as a managed service.
