How to Shoot a Promotional Film: Step-by-Step Guide

A promotional film is shot after the script and shooting plan are ready: location scouting, crew and equipment, lighting and sound setup, then planned scenes and interviews.

Shooting a promotional film starts with an approved script turned into a detailed shot list. The production team then follows a clear sequence:

  • Scout the location for light, noise, power and safety rules.
  • Plan the shooting schedule around daylight, production hours and interviewees.
  • Choose the crew and equipment: camera, lenses, stabilisation, lighting and dedicated sound recording.
  • Prepare people and spaces, removing confidential screens and off-brand clutter.
  • Shoot interviews, then plenty of B-roll and detail shots; add drone footage where permitted.
  • Back up all footage the same day and check the shot list for gaps.

Common mistakes include poor sound, too little B-roll and overloaded shooting days. Consent from people appearing on camera should be documented. Racoun plans and shoots promotional films in Istanbul and across Turkey, from script to final edit, and builds social media cut-downs into the plan from the start.
