How can you tell if an e-commerce website is trustworthy?

You can judge whether an online store is trustworthy by checking company details, SSL and 3D Secure payments, legal texts, realistic prices, independent reviews and the domain’s history.

To check whether an online store is trustworthy, look for several signals together rather than just one:

  • Full company name, address, phone and tax details on the site
  • A secure https connection and a 3D Secure step from your bank at checkout
  • Distance sales contract, pre-information form, return policy and privacy notice
  • Realistic prices, especially for well-known brands
  • Independent reviews outside the site and a domain that is not a misspelt copy of a brand

Warning signs include extreme countdown pressure, requests to wire money to a different account, missing tracking numbers and requests for card details by message. If something goes wrong, contact your bank immediately.

For sellers, trust is a conversion issue: transparent company information, technical security, clear shipping and return terms, genuine reviews and a fast, professional design all reduce cart abandonment. Racoun delivers stores with SSL, 3D Secure payment integration, privacy-compliant forms and security support through its technology unit.
