Choosing between a VPS and a dedicated server depends on the character of your workload. A VPS is a virtualized slice of a physical host, created by a hypervisor, with its own operating system and allocated resources. It scales quickly and suits most e-commerce sites, APIs and internal applications. A dedicated server gives you the entire machine, eliminating noisy-neighbor effects; it fits heavy disk I/O, per-core licensing or strict isolation requirements, at the cost of slower scaling.
Size servers from measurements, not guesses: peak CPU usage, memory pressure and swap activity, disk latency and IOPS, and network traffic. Remember that a vCPU usually maps to a hardware thread and varies by provider. Decide early whether the server is managed or unmanaged, because patching, firewalls, monitoring and tested backups take real effort. Hidden costs include licenses, off-site backup storage, extra IPs and the effort of migrating from a wrongly sized server. Hosting in Turkey reduces latency for local users and simplifies data residency discussions under KVKK, though location alone does not make a system compliant.
