What happens when a domain expires?

When a domain expires, the website and business email stop working. The domain enters a renewal grace period and then a redemption period; if still not renewed, it is deleted and can be registered by someone else.

When a domain expires, the website stops loading and business email can no longer be received or sent. Payment notifications, app logins, subdomains and SSL validation that rely on the domain also fail.

  • Grace period: right after expiry the domain is still yours and can usually be renewed at the normal price; the length depends on the registrar.
  • Redemption period: typically around a month, during which only the previous owner can restore it by paying an extra fee.
  • Pending delete: a few days when it can no longer be recovered.
  • Release: the name becomes available to anyone and valuable names are often caught quickly.

.tr domains follow TRABİS rules with their own timings. To recover, log in to the registrar immediately, renew or request redemption, then check DNS and email and fix the root cause. Prevent it with multi-year terms, auto-renew, a valid payment method, a single company account and calendar reminders. Racoun tracks domain renewals and can restore services quickly if something lapses.
