Start by defining the job of the packaging: shelf display, shipping protection, unboxing experience or a combination. Choose the box type and give accurate inner dimensions, keeping in mind that material thickness affects outer size. Select materials based on durability, appearance, cost and sustainability, and confirm suitability for food contact where relevant.
Plan printing and finishes according to quantity and brand needs. Prepare print-ready artwork using the supplier’s dieline, with bleed, the correct colour mode, adequate resolution and separate layers for finishes. Always request a prototype or printed proof before production. Plan quantities and timelines backwards from your launch date, and turn sustainability into concrete choices backed by material information. Finally, ask potential suppliers about samples, prepress checks, minimum quantities and reorder support.
