Google Ads charges your card because active campaigns accrue costs, which are collected when you hit a payment threshold or at the end of the billing period. New accounts often see small, frequent charges as the threshold grows.
- Common causes: forgotten active campaigns, campaigns created during quick setup, daily overdelivery, auto-applied recommendations, broad match or network expansion, final charges after pausing, unauthorised access, or other Google subscriptions.
- What to check: billing summary and transactions, campaign status, change history and user access; turn on two-step verification and limit auto-applied recommendations.
- Invalid clicks: Google filters many automatically and credits some later.
- Caution: blocking payments can lead to suspension; pause campaigns first.
Racoun audits access, recommendations and budgets on the accounts we manage, and shows spend transparently in our client panel.
