Why does a virtual POS get blocked? Causes and solutions

A virtual POS can be restricted, or settlements held, because of high chargeback or refund rates, sudden unexplained volume spikes, selling products that do not match the declared activity, suspicious transactions, missing documents or prohibited categories.

“Blocked” has two meanings for a virtual POS. The first is the normal settlement hold defined in your contract, when funds reach your account after an agreed period. The second is a risk-based restriction, when the provider holds funds longer, disables some transaction types or suspends the merchant account.

  • High chargeback or refund rates
  • Sudden, unexplained volume spikes
  • Selling products outside the declared activity or letting others use your POS
  • Prohibited or restricted categories
  • Suspicious transaction patterns and payments without 3D Secure
  • Missing documents or late and undelivered orders

If blocked, contact the provider in writing, supply invoices and delivery proof, explain volume changes and fix the root cause. Prevention means accurate application details, informing the provider before campaigns, 3D Secure, clear product information, automatic tracking and a second payment provider. Racoun builds these safeguards into the stores it develops.
