What Is Schema Markup (Structured Data)?

Schema markup, or structured data, is code that labels information on your page such as business, product or article details in a standard format search engines understand.

Schema markup, also called structured data, is code that labels the information on a page, such as business name, address, product price, stock status, article author or event date, using the shared schema.org vocabulary. Google recommends the JSON-LD format.

  • Organization and LocalBusiness for company and location details.
  • Product and Offer for e-commerce pages.
  • Article or BlogPosting for editorial content.
  • BreadcrumbList for site hierarchy.

Correct markup makes pages eligible for rich results and helps search engines and AI systems understand your business, but it does not guarantee rich results or higher rankings. Markup must match the visible content; marking up reviews or prices that are not on the page violates Google’s guidelines. Generate structured data from real content, test it and monitor it in Search Console. On Racoun-built sites, schema is generated automatically from the admin panel.
