Why Do Websites Get Suspended? Causes and What to Do

Websites are usually suspended because of unpaid hosting invoices, resource overuse, malware or spam, policy violations, copyright or legal complaints, or unverified domain registration details.

Websites are usually suspended by the hosting provider or the domain registrar. The most common reasons are:

  • unpaid hosting or domain renewal,
  • exceeding CPU, memory, disk or traffic limits,
  • malware or a compromised site,
  • spam sent through hacked forms or mailboxes,
  • acceptable use policy violations,
  • copyright or legal complaints,
  • unverified domain registration details.

If your site is suspended, read the notice, determine whether the hosting or the domain is affected, fix the root cause (payment, optimisation, malware cleanup and patching, content removal) and ask the provider to reinstate the service. Prevent suspensions with auto-renewal, updates, strong authentication, spam protection, SPF/DKIM/DMARC, adequate server resources and independent backups. Racoun’s Pedante Bilişim unit and Racurity security services help manage these risks with one point of contact.
